राक्षसान् पञ्चसाहस्रान् समरेष्वनिवर्तिनः ।
ते शूलैः पट्टिशैः खड्गैः शिलावर्षैर्द्रुमैः ॥ ॥३-२६-२॥
Rākṣasān pañcasāhasrān samareṣvanivartinaḥ |
Te śūlaiḥ paṭṭiśaiḥ khaḍgaiḥ śilāvarṣairdrumaiḥ ॥3-26-2॥
Translation
(He ordered) five thousand demons who never retreated in battle. They (attacked) with tridents, spears, swords, a rain of stones, and trees.

(दूषण ने) पाँच हजार ऐसे राक्षसों को (आदेश दिया) जो युद्ध से कभी पीठ नहीं दिखाते थे। वे शूलों, पट्टिशों, तलवारों, पत्थरों की वर्षा और वृक्षों के साथ (हमला करने लगे)।
English Commentary
The text specifies the deployment of elite troops: five thousand warriors described as anivartinah (those who do not turn back/retreat). This implies a hardened, fanatical core of the army.
