शरवर्षैर्विच्छिन्नं ववर्षुस्तं समन्ततः ।
तद्द्रुमाणां शिलानां च वर्षं प्राणहरं महत् ॥ ॥३-२६-३॥
Śaravarṣairvicchinnaṃ vavarṣustaṃ samantataḥ |
Taddrumāṇāṃ śilānāṃ ca varṣaṃ prāṇaharaṃ mahat ॥3-26-3॥
Translation
They rained upon him incessantly from all sides with showers of arrows. That massive volley of trees and rocks was life-threatening.

उन्होंने चारों ओर से श्रीराम पर बाणों की निरंतर वर्षा की। वह वृक्षों और शिलाओं की भारी वर्षा प्राण हरने वाली थी।
English Commentary
The assault is total—samantatah (from all sides). The repetition of varsham (rain) conveys the density of the projectiles. It was a chaotic mix of arrows, boulders, and trees intended to crush Rama under sheer weight and volume. The description pranaharam (taking away life) underscores the lethal nature of this barrage. It sets the stage for Rama's defensive maneuver in the subsequent verse.

'समन्ततः' (चारों ओर से) शब्द श्रीराम की स्थिति की गंभीरता को बताता है—वे घिर चुके थे। 'वर्षं' (वर्षा) शब्द का प्रयोग बाणों, पत्थरों और पेड़ों की निरंतरता और घनत्व (density) को दिखाने के लिए किया गया है। 'प्राणहरं' (प्राण हरने वाली) विशेषण यह स्पष्ट करता है कि यह हमला केवल डराने के लिए नहीं था, बल्कि अत्यंत घातक था। वाल्मीकि यहाँ श्रीराम के धैर्य की परीक्षा की पृष्ठभूमि तैयार कर रहे हैं।
