Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
असंख्येयैस्तु बाणौघैः प्रममाथ प्रमाथिनम् ।
स्थूलाक्षस्य अक्षिणी स्थूले पूरयामास सायकैः ॥ ॥३-२६-२१॥
Asaṃkhyeyaistu bāṇaughaiḥ pramamātha pramāthinam |
Sthūlākṣasya akṣiṇī sthūle pūrayāmāsa sāyakaiḥ ॥3-26-21॥
Translation
He crushed Pramathi with a multitude of countless arrows. And he filled the large eyes of Sthulaksha with arrows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन्होंने असंख्य बाणों के समूह से प्रमाथी को मथ डाला (मार डाला)。 और (तीसरे राक्षस) स्थूलाक्ष की बड़ी-बड़ी आँखों को बाणों से भर दिया।
English Commentary
The punishment fits the name. Pramathi (The Crusher/Tormentor) is physically crushed (pramamatha) by a volley of arrows. For Sthulaksha (Big-Eyed), Rama targets his defining feature. Filling the eye sockets with arrows is a gruesome yet tactically definitive move, blinding the opponent instantly before death. It illustrates that Rama’s archery was not just about power but about anatomical precision, targeting specific vulnerabilities based on the opponent's physiology.

यहाँ 'यथा नाम तथा गुण' (या तथा दंड) का सिद्धांत दिखता है। 'प्रमाथी' (मथने वाला/पीड़ा देने वाला) को श्रीराम ने बाणों से 'प्रममाथ' (मथ दिया/कुचल दिया)। 'स्थूलाक्ष' (बड़ी आँखों वाला) के लिए दंड और भी भयानक था—श्रीराम ने उसकी उन्हीं आँखों को निशाना बनाया जो उसकी पहचान थीं। आँखों में बाणों का भरा जाना अत्यंत कष्टदायक मृत्यु और श्रीराम की अचूक निशानेबाजी का प्रमाण है। उन्होंने शत्रु के शरीर के सबसे संवेदनशील और खुले हुए भाग को वेध दिया।
