हत्वा तु पञ्चसाहस्राननयद्यमसादनम् ।
दूषणं निहतं श्रुत्वा तस्य चैव पदानुगान् ॥ ॥३-२६-२३॥

...मारकर यमलोक पहुँचा दिया। दूषण और उसके (पाँच हजार) पैदल सैनिकों को मारा गया सुनकर... (खर ने आदेश दिया)।
English Commentary
The liquidation of the infantry is complete; they are dispatched to Yamasadanam (Yama's abode). This verse serves as a bridge connecting the fall of the vanguard to the reaction of the supreme commander, Khara. The strategic situation has shifted entirely: the initial wave and the secondary command (Dushana) are obliterated, leaving Khara exposed and forced to intervene directly.

यहाँ 5,000 योद्धाओं के वध का समापन है। 'यमसादनम्' (यमराज का घर) भेजना एक मुहावरा है जिसका अर्थ है मृत्यु। एक अकेले पैदल योद्धा (श्रीराम) द्वारा 5,000 राक्षसों का वध, वह भी इतनी शीघ्रता से, रामायण के युद्ध वर्णन का एक अद्भुत अंश है। यह समाचार जब मुख्य सेनापति और राजा 'खर' तक पहुँचा, तो युद्ध का अंतिम और सबसे भयानक चरण आरंभ होने की पृष्ठभूमि तैयार हुई।
