Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रतिजग्राह धर्मात्मा राघवस्तीक्ष्णसायकैः ।
प्रतिगृह्य च तद्वर्षं निमीलित इवर्षभः ॥ ॥३-२६-४॥
Pratijagrāha dharmātmā rāghavastīkṣṇasāyakaiḥ |
Pratigṛhya ca tadvarṣaṃ nimīlita ivarṣabhaḥ ॥3-26-4॥
Translation
The righteous Raghava countered that attack with sharp arrows. Receiving that rain (of weapons), he stood unperturbed, like a bull closing its eyes in the rain.
हिंदी अनुवाद
धर्मात्मा राघव ने तीखे बाणों से उस आक्रमण को रोका। उस (भयानक) वर्षा को उन्होंने वैसे ही सहन किया (या अपने ऊपर लिया) जैसे कोई बैल (ऋषभ) आँखें मूंदकर वर्षा को सह लेता है।
English Commentary
This verse contains a powerful simile: nimilita iva rishabhah (like a bull with closed eyes). Just as a mighty bull stands firm in a downpour, closing its eyes not out of fear but out of stoic endurance, Rama absorbs the initial shock of the assault with absolute calm. He is not agitated. The epithet Dharmatma reminds us that his combat is righteous duty, not bloodlust. He counters (pratijagraha) with sharp arrows, maintaining his ground against the five thousand.

यह रामायण के प्रसिद्ध उपमा-अलंकारों में से एक है। श्रीराम की तुलना 'ऋषभ' (सांड़/बैल) से की गई है जो वर्षा होने पर भागता नहीं, बल्कि आँखें मूंदकर उसे अपनी शक्ति और स्थिरता से सह लेता है। यह श्रीराम की 'अचल स्थिति' और निर्भयता का प्रतीक है। 'धर्मात्मा' विशेषण बताता है कि युद्ध के इस कोलाहल में भी वे धर्म और संयम से च्युत नहीं हुए। उन्होंने घबराने के बजाय तीखे बाणों से (तीक्ष्णसायकैः) प्रत्युत्तर दिया।
