Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
शरैरभ्यकिरत्सैन्यं सर्वतः सहदूषणम् ।
ततः सेनापतिः क्रुद्धो दूषणः शत्रुदूषणः ॥ ॥३-२६-६॥
Śarairabhyakiratsainyaṃ sarvataḥ sahadūṣaṇam |
Tataḥ senāpatiḥ kruddho dūṣaṇaḥ śatrudūṣaṇaḥ ॥3-26-6॥
Translation
He covered the army, along with Dushana, with arrows on all sides. Then the army commander Dushana, the destroyers of enemies, became enraged.
हिंदी अनुवाद
श्रीराम ने दूषण सहित पूरी सेना को सब ओर से बाणों से ढक दिया। तब शत्रुओं को दूषित (नष्ट) करने वाला सेनापति दूषण क्रुद्ध हो गया।
English Commentary
Rama shifts to total offense, enveloping (abhyakirat) the entire army and its commander in a net of arrows. The text plays on Dushana's name with the epithet Shatru-dushanah (he who pollutes/destroys enemies). This establishes Dushana as a formidable opponent, not a pushover, making the impending duel between the two enraged commanders—the blazing Rama and the enemy-destroying Dushana—a clash of titans.

श्रीराम ने आक्रामक रुख अपनाते हुए पूरी सेना को बाणों से 'आच्छादित' (abhyakirat) कर दिया। यहाँ वाल्मीकि ने दूषण के नाम के साथ शब्द-क्रीड़ा (wordplay) की है—उसे 'शत्रुदूषणः' (शत्रुओं के लिए दूषण/विनाशक) कहा है। यह विशेषण विडंबनापूर्ण भी है क्योंकि अब उसका सामना एक ऐसे शत्रु (श्रीराम) से है जो स्वयं 'खर-दूषण' का अंत करने वाले हैं। दोनों पक्षों के क्रोध और पराक्रम की टक्कर यहाँ आसन्न है।
