Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
शरैरशनिकल्पैस्तं राघवं समवारयत् ।
ततो रामः संक्रुद्धः क्षुरेणास्य महद्धनुः ॥ ॥३-२६-७॥
Śarairaśanikalpaistaṃ rāghavaṃ samavārayat |
Tato rāmaḥ saṃkruddhaḥ kṣureṇāsya mahaddhanuḥ ॥3-26-7॥
Translation
Dushana checked (stopped) Raghava with arrows that were like thunderbolts. Then, the enraged Rama cut Dushana's mighty bow with a crescent-shaped razor arrow (kshura).
हिंदी अनुवाद
(दूषण ने) वज्र के समान (अशनिकल्पैः) बाणों से राघव को रोक दिया। तब अत्यंत क्रुद्ध श्रीराम ने एक 'क्षुर' (तीक्ष्ण धार वाले बाण) से उसका विशाल धनुष काट दिया।
English Commentary
Dushana displays immense skill by momentarily checking Rama's advance with arrows hard as thunderbolts (ashani-kalpaih). However, Rama counters with tactical superiority. Instead of merely blocking arrows, he targets the weapon itself. Using a Kshura (a razor-headed arrow specifically designed for slicing), Rama severs Dushana's bow. In epic warfare, depriving an opponent of their bow is the first decisive step towards victory, rendering the enemy commander vulnerable.

दूषण के पराक्रम की प्रशंसा की गई है कि उसने क्षण भर के लिए श्रीराम को 'समवारयत्' (रोक दिया)। उसके बाण 'अशनि' (वज्र) के समान कठोर थे। किन्तु श्रीराम ने इसे स्वीकार नहीं किया। उन्होंने 'क्षुर' बाण का प्रयोग किया। 'क्षुर' एक विशेष प्रकार का बाण है जिसका मुख उस्तरे (razor) जैसा होता है और जो काटने के काम आता है। धनुष का कटना किसी भी योद्धा के लिए 'मृत्यु-तुल्य' अपमान और पराजय का प्रथम चरण होता है। श्रीराम ने दूषण के आक्रमण के स्रोत (धनुष) को ही नष्ट कर दिया।
