खरम् तु राम अभिमुखम् प्रयांतम् वाहिनी पतिः ।
राक्षसः त्रिशिरा नाम संनिपत्य इदम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥३-२७-१॥
Kharam tu rāma abhimukham prayāntam vāhinī patiḥ |
Rākṣasaḥ triśirā nāma saṃnipatya idam abravīt ॥3-27-1॥
Translation
Approaching Khara, who was rushing towards Rama, the army commander, a demon named Trishira, spoke these words.

श्रीराम की ओर (हमला करने के लिए) बढ़ते हुए खर के पास जाकर, सेनापति त्रिशिरा नामक राक्षस ने (उसे रोकते हुए) यह बात कही।
English Commentary
This verse opens Sarga 27 with an intervention. Just as the climactic clash between Rama and Khara seems inevitable, Trishira steps in. As the vāhinī patiḥ (commander of the army), it is Trishira's tactical duty to protect his leader. This interruption serves a narrative purpose: it delays the final gratification of the main duel, building suspense, and allows for the display of Trishira's loyalty and bravery. It characterizes the demon army as having structure and loyalty, rather than being a mindless mob.

यह सर्ग 27 का आरंभ है। यहाँ एक नाटकीय मोड़ आता है। जब खर सीधे राम से भिड़ने जा रहा था, तब उसका सेनापति त्रिशिरा बीच में आता है। 'वाहिनी पतिः' (सेनापति) शब्द त्रिशिरा के अधिकार और कर्तव्य को दर्शाता है। प्राचीन युद्ध नीति में अक्सर सेनापति राजा को सीधे खतरे में जाने से रोकते थे। त्रिशिरा का हस्तक्षेप उसके स्वामी-भक्ति और साहस का परिचायक है। वह जानता है कि राम काल-स्वरूप हैं, फिर भी वह अपने स्वामी को बचाने या स्वयं का बलिदान देने के लिए आगे आता है।
