Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तद् बलम् हत भूयिष्ठम् विमनाः प्रेक्ष्य राक्षसः ।
आससाद खरो रामम् नमुचिर् वासवम् यथा ॥ ॥३-२८-३॥
Tad balam hata bhūyiṣṭham vimanāḥ prekṣya rākṣasaḥ |
Āsasāda kharo rāmam namucir vāsavam yathā ॥3-28-3॥
Translation
Seeing the greater part of his army destroyed, the dejected demon Khara attacked Rama just as Namuchi attacked Indra (Vasava).

अपनी सेना के बहुत बड़े भाग को मारा गया देख, वह राक्षस (खर) खिन्न मन वाला होकर श्रीराम पर वैसे ही झपटा, जैसे नमुचि (दैत्य) इन्द्र पर झपटा था।
English Commentary
Khara is described as vimanāḥ (dispirited/disturbed), yet he attacks. This reflects the courage of despair. The comparison to Namuchi attacking Indra (Vasava) elevates the mythological status of the fight. Namuchi was one of Indra's most resilient foes. By invoking this parallel, Valmiki suggests that Khara is not just another demon, but a tenacious adversary who will require divine skill to defeat, turning the duel into a reenactment of ancient cosmic battles.
