विकृष्य बलवत् चापम् नाराचान् रक्त भोजनान् ।
खरः चिक्षेप रामाय क्रुद्धान् आशी विषान् इव ॥ ॥३-२८-४॥
Vikṛṣya balavat cāpam nārācān rakta bhojanān |
Kharaḥ cikṣepa rāmaya kruddhān āśī viṣān iva ॥3-28-4॥
Translation
Pulling his bow with great force, Khara shot Naracha arrows at Rama—arrows that were blood-feeders, resembling angry venomous snakes.

अपने धनुष को जोर से खींचकर, खर ने राम पर 'नाराच' (लोहे के बाण) छोड़े जो रक्त पीने वाले थे और क्रोधित विषधर साँपों के समान थे।
English Commentary
Khara initiates the duel with heavy artillery. Nārācha arrows are iron-shafted projectiles designed for heavy penetration. Describing them as rakta bhojanān (feeders on blood) gives them a predatory agency, as if the arrows themselves are hungry for Rama's life. The simile of "angry snakes" reinforces their speed, deadliness, and the hissing sound they likely made cutting through the air. It emphasizes that Khara is fighting with full lethal intent.

खर का आक्रमण भीषण है। वह 'नाराच' बाणों का प्रयोग करता है जो पूरी तरह लोहे के बने होते हैं और कवच भेदने में सक्षम होते हैं। कवि ने बाणों का मानवीकरण किया है—उन्हें 'रक्त भोजनान्' (खून का भोजन करने वाले) कहा है। यह वीभत्स रस का स्पर्श है। पुनः 'आशी विषान्' (विषधर सर्प) की उपमा आती है, जो बाणों की घातक प्रकृति को पुख्ता करती है। 'बलवत्' (जोर से) शब्द खर की शारीरिक शक्ति को दर्शाता है।
