Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स सर्वाः च दिशो बाणैः प्रदिशः च महारथः ।
पूरयामास तम् दृष्ट्वा रामो अपि सुमहत् धनुः ॥ ॥३-२८-६॥
Sa sarvāḥ ca diśo bāṇaiḥ pradiśaḥ ca mahārathaḥ |
Pūrayāmāsa tam dṛṣṭvā rāmo api sumahat dhanuḥ ॥3-28-6॥
Translation
That great chariot-warrior filled all directions and intermediate directions with arrows. Seeing him, Rama also took up his very great bow.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस महारथी (खर) ने (अपने) बाणों से सभी दिशाओं और उपदिशाओं को भर दिया। यह देखकर राम ने भी अपना विशाल धनुष (संभाला/उठाया)।
English Commentary
Khara demonstrates the "shower of arrows" technique, effectively blocking all avenues of escape or movement by filling the compass points (diśo... pradiśaḥ) with projectiles. This saturation attack forces Rama's hand. Rama raising his "very great bow" (sumahat dhanuḥ) signals the escalation of the conflict. It is a moment of recognition—Rama sees the threat is serious and prepares a proportionate response.

खर के 'महारथ' होने का प्रमाण यहाँ मिलता है—उसने आकाश को तीरों से पाट दिया है। दिशाओं और उपदिशाओं ('दिशो... प्रदिशः') को भरने का अर्थ है कि बचने का कोई स्थान नहीं छोड़ा। शत्रु के इस प्रचंड आक्रमण को देखकर राम भी सक्रिय होते हैं। 'सुमहत् धनुः' (अत्यंत विशाल धनुष) का उल्लेख बताता है कि राम अब साधारण प्रत्युत्तर नहीं देंगे, बल्कि अपनी पूरी शक्ति के साथ सामना करेंगे।
