प्रहरस्व यथा कामम् कुरु यत्नम् कुलाधम ।
अद्य ते पातयिष्यामि शिरः ताल फलम् यथा ॥ ॥३-२९-१४॥
Praharasva yathā kāmam kuru yatnam kulādhama |
Adya te pātayiṣyāmi śiraḥ tāla phalam yathā ॥3-29-14॥
Translation
Strike as you wish and exert yourself to the fullest, O disgrace of your race! Today I shall knock down your head just like a palm fruit (is knocked off the tree).
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे कुलाधम! तुम अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार प्रहार करो और पूरा यत्न कर लो। आज मैं तुम्हारा सिर उसी प्रकार (धड़ से) गिरा दूंगा, जैसे ताड़ का फल (वृक्ष से गिरता है)।
English Commentary
Rama uses a vivid simile here, comparing Khara’s head to a tāla phalam (palm fruit). A palm fruit falls heavily and directly when severed; implies a clean, decisive decapitation. By addressing Khara as kulādhama (lowest of his lineage) and inviting him to strike first ('Strike as you wish'), Rama displays supreme confidence and adherence to the warrior code that allows the opponent to exhaust their efforts. The imagery suggests that Khara’s death is ripe and inevitable, merely waiting for the specific stroke of Rama’s arrow.
हिंदी टीका
श्रीराम यहाँ खर को 'कुलाधम' (कुल का नीच) कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, जो क्षत्रिय धर्म के अनुसार शत्रु को ललकारने की शैली है। 'ताल फलम् यथा' (ताड़ के फल की भाँति) की उपमा अत्यंत सटीक है। जैसे ताड़ का फल पकने पर या भारी होने पर डंठल से अलग होकर सीधा नीचे गिरता है, वैसे ही खर का सिर धड़ से अलग होगा। यह उपमा यह भी दर्शाती है कि यह कार्य श्रीराम के लिए कितना सहज है। श्रीराम शत्रु को पहले प्रहार करने का अवसर दे रहे हैं (प्रहरस्व यथा कामम्), जो उनके आत्मविश्वास और युद्ध मर्यादा का परिचायक है।
