प्राकृताः तु अकृत आत्मानो लोके क्षत्रिय पांसनाः ।
निरर्थकम् विकत्थन्ते यथा राम विकत्थसे ॥ ॥३-२९-१८॥
Prākṛtāḥ tu akṛta ātmāno loke kṣatriya pāṃsanāḥ |
Nirarthakam vikatthante yathā rāma vikatthase ॥3-29-18॥
Translation
But only the vulgar, the undisciplined souls, and the disgraces to the warrior caste boast regarding themselves in vain in this world—just as you are boasting, O Rama.

(किंतु) जो साधारण, अकृतआत्मा (जिनका चित्त वश में नहीं है) और क्षत्रिय कुल को कलंकित करने वाले लोग होते हैं, वे ही संसार में व्यर्थ डींगें हाँकते हैं, जैसे हे राम, तुम डींग हाँक रहे हो।
English Commentary
The insult deepens as Khara labels boasters as kṣatriya pāṃsanāḥ—those who sully the reputation of the Kshatriya caste. He uses the term akṛta ātmāno (souls who have not 'made' or cultivated themselves, i.e., undisciplined). Khara argues that meaningless boasting (nirarthakam vikatthante) is the domain of the vulgar. By explicitly stating 'just as you are boasting, O Rama,' he attempts to strip Rama of his royal and martial dignity, reducing him to the status of a common, undisciplined brawler.

खर का आक्षेप यहाँ और तीखा हो जाता है। वह राम की तुलना 'क्षत्रिय पांसनाः' (क्षत्रिय कुल की धूल/कलंक) से करता है। वह राम को 'अकृत आत्मानो' कहता है, जिसका अर्थ है ऐसा व्यक्ति जिसने अपने मन को प्रशिक्षित या संस्कृत नहीं किया है। खर का कहना है कि 'विकत्थन' (डींग मारना/बड़बोलापन) केवल निम्न कोटि के लोगों का काम है। वह "यथा राम विकत्थसे" कहकर सीधे राम को इस श्रेणी में डालता है। यह शत्रु द्वारा राम के धैर्य को तोड़ने का एक और प्रयास है।
