कुलम् व्यपदिशन् वीरः समरे को अभिधास्यति ।
मृत्यु काले हि संप्राप्ते स्वयम् अप्रस्तवे स्तवम् ॥ ॥३-२९-१९॥
Kulam vyapadiśan vīraḥ samare ko abhidhāsyati |
Mṛtyu kāle hi saṃprāpte svayam aprastave stavam ॥3-29-19॥

When the time of death has arrived, what hero, citing his lineage in battle, would utter his own praise when it is uncalled for?

मृत्यु काल के निकट आ जाने पर, अपने कुल का नाम लेने वाला कौन सा वीर युद्ध भूमि में स्वयं अपनी अप्रासंगिक (अनुचित) स्तुति करेगा?
English Commentary
Khara questions Rama’s sanity and sense of timing. He posits that since Rama’s death is imminent (mṛtyu kāle hi saṃprāpte), engaging in self-praise is utterly absurd (aprastave—out of context/irrelevant). He suggests that a true hero, conscious of his lineage (kulam vyapadiśan), would focus on the gravity of the moment rather than reciting his own resume. This verse reveals Khara’s delusion; he is so certain of his victory that he interprets Rama’s confidence as the delusional ramblings of a dying man.

खर का तर्क है कि मृत्यु को सामने देखकर भी राम अपनी स्तुति कर रहे हैं, जो 'अप्रस्ताव' (संदर्भहीन या अनुचित) है। यहाँ 'कुलम् व्यपदिशन्' का अर्थ है उच्च कुल का वास्ता देना। खर का मानना है कि राम की मृत्यु निश्चित है, और ऐसे समय में ईश्वर को याद करने या युद्ध करने के बजाय, राम अपनी ही प्रशंसा कर रहे हैं। यह श्लोक खर के अति-आत्मविश्वास (overconfidence) को दर्शाता है, क्योंकि उसे लग रहा है कि राम का 'मृत्यु काल' आ गया है।
