ताम् आपतन्तीम् महतीम् मृत्यु पाश उपमाम् गदाम् ।
अंतरिक्ष गताम् रामः चिच्छेद बहुधा शरैः ॥ ॥३-२९-२७॥
Tām āpatantīm mahatīm mṛtyu pāśa upamām gadām |
Antarikṣa gatām rāmaḥ ciccheda bahudhā śaraiḥ ॥3-29-27॥
Translation
Rama cut that huge mace, which was falling upon him like the noose of death, into many pieces with his arrows while it was still in the sky.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मृत्यु के फंदे (कालपाश) के समान आती हुई उस विशाल गदा को, आकाश में ही (अंतरिक्ष गताम्), श्रीराम ने अपने बाणों से अनेक टुकड़ों में काट दिया।
English Commentary
Rama neutralizes the threat with supreme precision. The comparison of the mace to mṛtyu pāśa (Yama’s noose of death) reiterates the danger. However, Rama destroys it antarikṣa gatām (while it was still in the mid-air). This interception requires incredible speed and accuracy. By shattering it bahudhā (into many pieces), Rama dismantles Khara's 'ultimate' attack before it can even graze him, shifting the momentum of the battle entirely in his favor.
हिंदी टीका
यहाँ श्रीराम की 'हस्त-लाघव' (hand dexterity) और धनुर्विद्या का अद्भुत प्रदर्शन है। गदा को 'मृत्यु पाश उपमाम्' (मृत्यु के फंदे के समान) कहा गया है, जो यह बताता है कि यदि वह लगती तो मृत्यु निश्चित थी। श्रीराम ने उसे धरती पर गिरने या अपने पास पहुँचने से पहले ही 'अंतरिक्ष गताम्' (हवा में ही) काट दिया। 'बहुधा' (अनेक प्रकार से/टुकड़ों में) शब्द बताता है कि राम ने केवल एक बाण नहीं, बल्कि बाणों की झड़ी लगाकर गदा को पूर्णतः नष्ट कर दिया। यह खर के अहंकार पर करारा प्रहार है।
