लोभात् पापानि कुर्वाणः कामात् वा यो न बुध्यते ।
हृष्टः पश्यति तस्य अन्तम् ब्राह्मणी करकात् इव ॥ ॥३-२९-५॥
lobhāt pāpāni kurvāṇaḥ kāmāt vā yo na budhyate |
hṛṣṭaḥ paśyati tasya antam brāhmaṇī karakāt iva ॥3-29-5॥
Translation
"He who, out of greed or lust, commits sins and does not realize (the consequences), witnesses his own end just as a Brahmani lizard meets its end through its own offspring."
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो लोभ या कामवासना के कारण पाप करते हुए (परिणाम को) नहीं समझता, वह अपने अंत को उसी प्रकार देखता है, जैसे ब्राह्मणी (छिपकली/केकड़ा) अपने गर्भ (संतान) से अपना नाश देखती है।
English Commentary
Rama warns against the blindness caused by lobha (greed) and kama (lust/desire). The sinner acts joyfully (hrishtah) or ignorantly, unaware that they are birthing their own destruction. The metaphor Brahmani karakat iva is classical and specific: it refers to a creature (interpreted as a type of lizard, crab, or scorpion in commentaries) whose offspring consumes or destroys the mother upon birth. Just as the creature's own creation becomes its killer, Khara's own actions (karma) have matured into the inevitability of his death. He is the architect of his own doom.
हिंदी टीका
इस श्लोक की उपमा 'ब्राह्मणी करकात् इव' अत्यंत प्रसिद्ध और गहन है। टीकाकारों के अनुसार, यहाँ 'ब्राह्मणी' एक विशेष प्रकार की छिपकली या जंतु है और 'करकात्' का अर्थ उसकी संतान या अंडे हैं, जो पैदा होते ही अपनी माता को खा जाते हैं या नष्ट कर देते हैं। भाव यह है कि पापी का पाप ही उसके विनाश का कारण बनता है। खर ने लोभ और काम के वशीभूत होकर जो पाप किए, वे ही अब उसके मृत्यु का रूप लेकर सामने खड़े हैं। पाप की उत्पत्ति में ही पापी का विनाश छिपा होता है।
