अथ उवाच पुनर् वाक्यम् विराधः पूरयन् वनम् ।
पृच्छतो मम हि ब्रूतम् कौ युवाम् क्व गमिष्यथः ॥ ॥३-३-१॥
atha uvāca punar vākyam virādhaḥ pūrayan vanam । pṛcchato mama hi brūtam kau yuvām kva gamiṣyathaḥ ॥ ॥3-3-1॥
Translation
Then, filling the forest [with his roaring voice], Viradha spoke these words again: "Tell me, for I ask: who are you two, and where are you going?"

इसके पश्चात, वन को (अपनी गर्जना से) भरते हुए विराध ने पुनः यह वाक्य कहा—"मेरे पूछने पर बताओ कि तुम दोनों कौन हो और कहाँ जाओगे?"
English Commentary
This marks the beginning of Sarga 3. After capturing Sita and hearing the brothers converse (or lament), Viradha interrupts. The phrase 'pūrayan vanam' (filling the forest) describes the sheer volume and terrifying nature of his voice, establishing his dominance over the environment. His tone is interrogative and commanding; he demands their identity not out of fear, but out of arrogance, oblivious to the danger the two brothers pose to him.

यहाँ से सर्ग ३ (अरण्यकाण्ड) का आरम्भ होता है। पिछले सर्ग में सीता को पकड़ने के बाद राम-लक्ष्मण की बातें सुनकर विराध अब उनसे संवाद करता है। 'पूरयन् वनम्' (वन को भरते हुए) उसकी आवाज की भयानकता और प्रभुत्व को दर्शाता है। वह राम और लक्ष्मण के शोक या क्रोध से प्रभावित हुए बिना, अधिकारपूर्वक प्रश्न करता है। यह राक्षस के अहंकार को प्रदर्शित करता है जो अपने सामने खड़े योद्धाओं को नहीं पहचान रहा है।
