Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
धनुषा ज्या गुणवतā सप्त बाणान् मुमोच ह ।
रुक्म पुंखान् महावेगान् सुपर्ण अनिल तुल्य गान् ॥ ॥३-३-११॥
dhanuṣā jyā guṇavatā sapta bāṇān mumoca ha । rukma puṃkhān mahāvegān suparṇa anila tulya gān ॥ ॥3-3-11॥
Translation
From his bow strung with the cord, he released seven arrows—gold-feathered, of great velocity, moving like Suparna (Garuda) or the wind.

उन्होंने (राम ने) प्रत्यंचा युक्त धनुष से सात बाण छोड़े, जो सोने के पंख वाले (रुक्म पुंखान्), महावेगवान, और गरुड़ (सुपर्ण) तथा वायु के समान गति वाले थे।
English Commentary
The verse details the majesty of Rama's attack. He releases a volley of seven arrows simultaneously. They are described as 'rukma puṃkhān' (gold-feathered/shafted), indicating their high quality and royal nature. The similes 'Suparna' (Garuda) and 'anila' (wind) emphasize their terrifying speed and unstoppable force. Comparing the arrows to Garuda is significant, as Garuda is the destroyer of serpents, fitting for destroying a demon.

राम के प्रहार की भव्यता का वर्णन है। उन्होंने एक साथ 'सप्त बाणान्' (सात बाण) छोड़े। बाणों की विशेषताएँ बताई गई हैं: 'रुक्म पुंखान्' (सोने के पंख वाले, जो राजसी और दिव्य अस्त्रों का प्रतीक है) और 'सुपर्ण अनिल तुल्य गान्' (गरुड़ और वायु के समान तेज)। गरुड़ साँपों का शत्रु है, और विराध की तुलना (लक्ष्मण के श्लोक में) नाग से की जा चुकी है, अतः यह उपमा उपयुक्त है कि राम के बाण गरुड़ की तरह उस पर झपटे।
