तत् शूलम् वज्र संकाशम् गगने ज्वलन उपमम् ।
द्वाभ्याम् शराभ्याम् चिच्छेद रामः शस्त्रभृताम् वरः ॥ ॥३-३-१८॥
Tat śūlam vajra saṃkāśam gagane jvalana upamam |
dvābhyām śarābhyām ciccheda rāmaḥ śastrabhṛtām varaḥ ॥3-3-18॥
Translation
Rama, the best among weapon-wielders, severed that trident—which resembled a thunderbolt and blazed like fire in the sky—using two arrows.

शस्त्रधारियों में श्रेष्ठ श्रीराम ने आकाश में वज्र के समान चमकते और अग्नि के समान प्रज्वलित उस शूल को दो बाणों से काट डाला।
English Commentary
Rama acts defensively yet masterfully here. Cited as shastrabhritam varah (the best among those who bear arms), he identifies the immediate threat—the trident—and neutralizes it before it can strike. The trident is described as formidable as a thunderbolt (vajra) and blazing in the sky, yet Rama severs it with precision using just two arrows. This moment emphasizes that while the demon's body might be immune to harm, his equipment is not. Rama's ability to cut a moving projectile in mid-air highlights his supreme archery skills and presence of mind under pressure.
हिंदी टीका
श्रीराम को यहाँ 'शस्त्रभृताम् वरः' (शस्त्र धारण करने वालों में श्रेष्ठ) कहा गया है। यद्यपि विराध का शरीर अवध्य था, उसका शस्त्र नहीं। जब विराध ने अपना घातक शूल फेंका या तानकर आक्रमण किया, तो श्रीराम ने उसे हवा में ही काट दिया। यह अद्भुत लक्ष्य-भेद है। शूल की तुलना वज्र से की गई है, फिर भी श्रीराम के केवल दो बाणों ने उसे नष्ट कर दिया। यह दर्शाता है कि श्रीराम विचलित हुए बिना शत्रु की शक्ति (शस्त्र) को नष्ट कर रहे थे। यह उनकी युद्ध नीति का हिस्सा था—शत्रु को निहत्था करना।
