Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तत् राम विशिखैः छिन्नम् शूलम् तस्य आपतत् भुविः ।
पपात अशनिना चिन्नम् मेरोर् इव शिला तलम् ॥ ॥३-३-१९॥
Tat rāma viśikhaiḥ chinnam śūlam tasya āpatat bhuviḥ |
papāta aśaninā cinnam meror iva śilā talam ॥3-3-19॥
Translation
That trident, severed by Rama’s arrows, fell to the ground like a slab of rock from Mount Meru severed by a lightning bolt.
हिंदी अनुवाद
श्रीराम के बाणों से कटा हुआ वह शूल पृथ्वी पर इस प्रकार गिर पड़ा, जैसे वज्र के प्रहार से टूटकर मेरु पर्वत का कोई शिलाखंड गिरा हो।
English Commentary
The poet continues the grand imagery. The fallen trident is not likened to a stick, but to a massive rock slab (shila talam) from the sacred Mount Meru, sheared off by a thunderbolt (ashanina). This conveys the massive weight and solid metal nature of the weapon. It also elevates Rama's arrows to the status of Indra's thunderbolt in terms of destructive power. The destruction of the trident is a significant psychological blow to the demon and a physical turning point in the battle, rendering the monster unarmed.

शूल के गिरने की उपमा अत्यंत भव्य है। उसकी तुलना 'मेरु पर्वत' के शिलाखंड से की गई है जिसे 'अशनि' (वज्र/बिजली) ने काट दिया हो। यह शूल के भारीपन और आकार को सिद्ध करता है। जब वह गिरा, तो निश्चित ही उससे पृथ्वी कम्पित हुई होगी। यह उपमा श्रीराम के बाणों की शक्ति को भी वज्र के समान स्थापित करती है। विराध का सबसे शक्तिशाली अस्त्र अब नष्ट हो चुका था, जिससे उसका अहंकार और आक्रमण दोनों बाधित हुए। हिंदी साहित्य में ऐसी वीर रस युक्त उपमाएं युद्ध वर्णन को सजीव कर देती हैं।
