स तु स्व बल वीर्येण समुत्क्षिप्य निशाचरः ।
बालाः इव स्कन्ध गतौ चकार अति बलोद्धतः ॥ ॥३-३-२४॥
Sa tu sva bala vīryeṇa samutkṣipya niśācaraḥ |
bālāḥ iva skandha gatau cakāra ati baloddhataḥ ॥3-3-24॥
Translation
Arrogant with his own strength and valor, that night-wanderer lifted them up and placed them on his shoulders as if they were mere children.

अपनी शक्ति और पराक्रम के अहंकार में चूर उस राक्षस ने उन दोनों को बच्चों के समान उठाकर अपने कंधों पर बैठा लिया।
English Commentary
The imagery here emphasizes the sheer physical dominance of the demon and his hubris (baloddhataḥ - arrogant with power). Lifting two fully grown, armed warriors as if they were children (balah iva) underscores his colossal size and supernatural strength. However, the poet creates a dramatic irony: Viradha believes he has captured two helpless humans, unaware that he has placed his own destroyers upon his shoulders. This moment captures the peak of the demon's delusion before his inevitable fall.

यहाँ विराध के अहंकार ('बलोद्धतः') और शारीरिक शक्ति का वर्णन है। श्रीराम और लक्ष्मण, जो महाबली योद्धा हैं, उन्हें विराध ने 'बालाः इव' (बच्चों की तरह) उठा लिया। यह दृश्य विरोधाभासी है—एक ओर त्रिलोकी के स्वामी (राम), और दूसरी ओर उन्हें बालक समझकर उठाने वाला अज्ञानी राक्षस। यह उपमा राक्षस के विशाल आकार को भी सिद्ध करती है। विराध को लगा कि उसने विजय प्राप्त कर ली है, किन्तु वह नहीं जानता था कि वह अपने कंधों पर साक्षात अपनी मृत्यु को ढो रहा है।
