Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दृढम् खलु अवलिप्तो असि भयेषु अपि च निर्भयः ।
वाच्य अवाच्यम् ततो हि त्वम् मृत्यु वश्यो न बुध्यसे ॥ ॥३-३०-१४॥
Dṛḍham khalu avalipto asi bhayeṣu api ca nirbhayaḥ |
Vācya avācyam tato hi tvam mṛtyu vaśyo na budhyase ॥3-30-14॥
Translation
You are indeed firmly arrogant, remaining fearless even in the face of fear (danger). Being under the sway of death, you do not realize what ought to be said and what ought not.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम वास्तव में बहुत अहंकारी हो, इसीलिए भय के स्थानों (मौत के सामने) में भी निडर बने हुए हो। तुम मृत्यु के वश में हो चुके हो, इसीलिए तुम यह नहीं समझ पा रहे हो कि क्या कहना चाहिए और क्या नहीं (वाच्य-अवाच्य)।
English Commentary
Khara interprets Rama’s courage as stupidity born of arrogance (avalipto asi). He argues that Rama is fearless simply because he fails to grasp the gravity of the danger (bhayeṣu api ca nirbhayaḥ). Khara claims that Rama is already mṛtyu vaśyo (under the control of death), which explains his lack of filter regarding vācya avācyam (what is proper to say and what is not). Khara dismisses Rama's moral lectures as the ramblings of a dying man.

खर राम की निडरता को 'वीरता' नहीं, बल्कि 'अवलिप्त' (घमंड) और पागलपन मानता है। उसका तर्क है कि जब मृत्यु सामने खड़ी हो (खर के रूप में), तो राम का निडर रहना स्वाभाविक नहीं है। वह कहता है कि राम 'मृत्यु वश्यो' (मौत के अधीन) हो चुके हैं, इसलिए उनकी बुद्धि भ्रष्ट हो गई है और वे 'वाच्य अवाच्यम्' (बोलने योग्य और न बोलने योग्य) का विवेक खो बैठे हैं। यह विनाशकाले विपरीत बुद्धि का राक्षसी संस्करण है।
