काल पाश परिक्षिप्ता भवंति पुरुषा हि ये ।
कार्य अकार्यम् न जानन्ति ते निरस्त षड् इन्द्रियाः ॥ ॥३-३०-१५॥
Kāla pāśa parikṣiptā bhavanti puruṣā hi ye |
Kārya akāryam na jānanti te nirasta ṣaḍ indriyāḥ ॥3-30-15॥
Translation
For those men who are ensnared by the noose of Death, their six senses are cast out (fail them), and they no longer distinguish between what should be done and what should not.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो पुरुष कालपाश (मृत्यु के फंदे) में फंस जाते हैं, उनकी छहों इन्द्रियां (पाँच ज्ञानेन्द्रियां और छठा मन) नष्ट हो जाती हैं, और वे कार्य-अकार्य (कर्तव्य और अकर्तव्य) को नहीं जानते।
English Commentary
Khara waxes philosophical, stating a universal truth: impending death clouds judgment. He mentions the ṣaḍ indriyāḥ (six senses—the five physical senses plus the mind/manas). When one is caught in kāla pāśa (Time's/Death's noose), these faculties fail (nirasta), leading to a loss of moral discrimination (kārya akāryam). While Khara aims this insight at Rama, the narrative irony is that Khara is the one exhibiting these exact symptoms of doom.

यह खर द्वारा बोला गया एक नीति-वचन है, जो विडंबनापूर्ण है क्योंकि यह उसी पर लागू होता है। वह 'षड् इन्द्रियाः' (छह इन्द्रियों—आँख, कान, नाक, जीभ, त्वचा और मन) के सिद्धांत की बात करता है। उसका कहना है कि मृत्यु निकट आने पर मनुष्य का विवेक (कार्य-अकार्य ज्ञान) समाप्त हो जाता है। खर यह राम के लिए कह रहा है, लेकिन पाठकों के लिए यह स्पष्ट है कि वास्तव में खर ही वह व्यक्ति है जिसकी बुद्धि कालपाश के कारण नष्ट हो चुकी है।
