Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पांसु रूषित सर्वान्गः स्रस्त न्यस्त भुज द्वयः ।
स्वप्स्यसे गाम् समाश्लिष्य दुर्लभाम् प्रमदाम् इव ॥ ॥३-३०-७॥
Pāṃsu rūṣita sarvāngaḥ srasta nyasta bhuja dvayaḥ |
Svapsyase gām samāśliṣya durlabhām pramadām iva ॥3-30-7॥
Translation
With all your limbs covered in dust and both arms cast down, you shall sleep embracing the earth as if she were a difficult-to-obtain woman.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तुम्हारे सारे अंग धूल से सन जायेंगे, दोनों भुजाएं टूटकर गिर पड़ेंगी; तब तुम पृथ्वी को वैसे आलिंगन करके सोओगे, जैसे कोई किसी दुर्लभ (कठिनाई से प्राप्त) प्रेमिका को आलिंगन करता है।
English Commentary
This verse is a masterpiece of macabre poetry. Rama describes Khara's death posture: covered in dust (pāṃsu rūṣita), arms thrown about helplessly. The simile compares his final fall onto the earth to a lover embracing a durlabhām pramadām (a woman hard to obtain). It suggests that for a warrior, the 'Earth' is the ultimate bride, and death is the consummation of that relationship. It implies a finality and a strange, tragic peace after the violence.

यह वाल्मीकि रामायण के सबसे प्रसिद्ध और काव्यात्मक श्लोकों में से एक है। मृत्यु (धरती पर गिरने) की तुलना 'आलिंगन' से की गई है। 'गाम् समाश्लिष्य' (पृथ्वी को गले लगाकर) और 'दुर्लभाम् प्रमदाम् इव' (जैसे कोई ऐसी स्त्री जो बड़ी मुश्किल से मिली हो) की उपमा अद्भुत है। यह व्यंग्य भी है—खर, जो अभी तक युद्ध और हिंसा का प्रेमी था, अब शांति से धरती की गोद में सोएगा। 'स्रस्त न्यस्त भुज द्वयः' (फेंकी हुई भुजाएं) उसकी पूरी तरह से पराजित अवस्था का चित्रण है।
