प्रवृद्ध निद्रे शयिते त्वयि राक्षस पांसने ।
भविष्यन्ति अशरण्यानाम् शरण्या दण्डका इमे ॥ ॥३-३०-८॥
Pravṛddha nidre śayite tvayi rākṣasa pāṃsane |
Bhaviṣyanti aśaraṇyānām śaraṇyā daṇḍakā ime ॥3-30-8॥
Translation
When you, O disgrace of the demons, are lying in deep sleep (death), this Dandaka forest will become a sanctuary for those who currently have no refuge.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राक्षसकुल के कलंक! जब तुम (मृत्यु रूपी) घोर निद्रा में सो जाओगे, तब यह दंडकारण्य (जो अब तक असुरक्षित था) आश्रयहीनों के लिए शरणदाता (सुरक्षित) बन जाएगा।
English Commentary
Rama reveals the broader implication of this duel. It is not just about self-defense; it is about geopolitics and spiritual safety. Khara is the blight of the Dandaka forest. His 'deep sleep' (pravṛddha nidre) is the precondition for the forest becoming śaraṇyā (a place of refuge) again. Rama frames Khara's execution as an act of liberation for the sages and inhabitants of the region, fulfilling his duty as a protector.

श्रीराम यहाँ अपने अवतार कार्य और वनवास के उद्देश्य को स्पष्ट करते हैं। खर का वध केवल व्यक्तिगत शत्रुता नहीं, बल्कि 'लोक-कल्याण' है। 'प्रवृद्ध निद्रे' (लंबी नींद/मृत्यु) में खर के सोने के बाद, दंडकारण्य ऋषियों के लिए 'शरण्य' (सुरक्षित आश्रय) बन जाएगा। अभी तक यह 'अशरण्य' (असुरक्षित) था। राम यह बता रहे हैं कि खर का अस्तित्व ही शांति के मार्ग में बाधा है, और उसका अंत धर्म की स्थापना है।
