अकंपन अचः श्रुत्वा रावणो वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ।
गमिष्यामि जनस्थनम् रामम् हन्तुम् स लक्ष्मणम् ॥३-३१-२१॥
Akampana vacaḥ śrutvā rāvaṇo vākyam abravīt |
Gamiṣyāmi janasthanam rāmam hantum sa lakṣmaṇam ॥3-31-21॥
Translation
Hearing the words of Akampana, Ravana spoke these words: "I shall go to Janasthana to kill Rama along with Lakshmana."

अकंपन के वचन सुनकर रावण ने (क्रोधित होकर) यह वाक्य कहा— "मैं जनस्थान जाऊँगा और लक्ष्मण सहित राम का वध करूँगा।"
English Commentary
This verse captures Ravana's impulsive and arrogant nature. Despite hearing about the supernatural destruction of his massive army by a single man, his immediate reaction is not caution, but a declaration of violence. He believes his physical presence alone is enough to resolve the issue ('I shall go... to kill'). He dismisses the nuanced warning Akampana just provided, showcasing the hubris that eventually leads to his downfall. He views the killing of Rama and Lakshmana as a simple task to be executed immediately.

रावण का चरित्र यहाँ स्पष्ट होता है। बिना शत्रु की शक्ति का पूरा आंकलन किए, केवल अपने अहंकार और क्रोध के वश में होकर वह तुरंत प्रतिक्रिया देता है। 'गमिष्यामि' (मैं जाऊँगा) और 'हन्तुम्' (मारने के लिए) उसके अति-आत्मविश्वास को दर्शाते हैं। वह राम के अलौकिक कृत्यों को सुनने के बाद भी उन्हें सामान्य मनुष्य मानकर बल से कुचलने की बात कर रहा है। यह विनाशकाले विपरीत बुद्धि का उदाहरण है। अकंपन की चेतावनी अभी उसके मर्म तक नहीं पहुँची है।
