बाढम् कल्यम् गमिष्यामि हि एकः सारथिना सह ।
आनेष्यामि च वैदेहीम् इमाम् हृष्टो महा पुरीम् ॥३-३१-३३॥
bāḍham kalyam gamiṣyāmi hi ekaḥ sārathinā saha |
āneṣyāmi ca vaidehīm imām hṛṣṭo mahā purīm ॥3-31-33॥
Translation
"Very well! I shall go tomorrow morning alone, accompanied only by a charioteer. I will joyfully bring that Vaidehi (Sita) to this great city."
हिंदी अनुवाद
बहुत अच्छा! कल सुबह मैं केवल एक सारथी के साथ (वहाँ) जाऊँगा और उस वैदेही (सीता) को प्रसन्नतापूर्वक इस महापुरी (लंका) में ले आऊँगा।
English Commentary
Ravana's hubris is palpable in this verse. His declaration that he will go "alone with a charioteer" indicates he sees this mission not as a war, but as a simple acquisition. He underestimates the difficulty of abducting Sita from under Rama's protection. The use of the word hṛṣṭo (joyfully/happily) is ominous; he anticipates pleasure in an act that constitutes a grave violation of Dharma. He speaks of bringing "Vaidehi" to the "great city," imagining her as a trophy to adorn his capital, completely oblivious to the fact that he is inviting his own doom into Lanka.

रावण का आत्मविश्वास और अहंकार यहाँ स्पष्ट दिखाई देता है। 'बाढम्' (अवश्य/बहुत अच्छा) कहकर वह उत्साह प्रकट करता है। वह सेना ले जाने की आवश्यकता भी नहीं समझता, केवल सारथी के साथ जाने का निर्णय लेता है, जो यह दर्शाता है कि वह इस कार्य को कितना सरल मान रहा है। 'हृष्टो' (प्रसन्न होकर) शब्द बताता है कि वह इस घृणित कार्य को पाप नहीं, बल्कि एक उपलब्धि मान रहा है। वह अभी से सीता को लंका में लाने की कल्पना करके प्रसन्न हो रहा है, भविष्य के विनाश से पूरी तरह अनजान।
