तस्य मे कुरु साचिव्यम् तस्य भार्या अपहरणे ।
राक्षसेन्द्र वचः श्रुत्वा मारीचो वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ॥३-३१-४१॥
tasya me kuru sācivyam tasya bhāryā apaharaṇe |
rākṣasendra vacaḥ śrutvā mārīco vākyam abravīt ॥3-31-41॥
Translation
"Therefore, assist me in the abduction of his wife." Hearing the words of the Lord of Rakshasas, Maricha spoke these words.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(अतः) उस राम की पत्नी का अपहरण करने में आप मेरी सहायता (सचिव का कार्य) करें। राक्षस राज के वचन सुनकर मारीच ने यह बात कही।
English Commentary
Ravana finally drops the pretenses and explicitly demands sacivyam (assistance/collaboration) in abducting Sita. He views this as a strategic counter-strike. Maricha's reaction is immediate and grave. Having barely survived Rama's arrows previously, Maricha understands the magnitude of the mistake Ravana is proposing. The verse sets up a dramatic contrast: the arrogant king demanding a crime, and the wise, traumatized elder realizing that his sovereign is asking for their mutual destruction. Maricha prepares to speak not as a subordinate, but as a desperate counselor trying to save his king from suicide.

रावण अंततः अपने उद्देश्य को स्पष्ट करता है—सीता का अपहरण। वह मारीच से 'साचिव्यम्' (सहायता/सहयोग) मांगता है। रावण जानता है कि मारीच मायावी है और छल-कपट में निपुण है, इसलिए इस कार्य के लिए वही उपयुक्त है। मारीच, जो पहले ही राम के बाणों का आघात सह चुका है और अब तपस्वी जीवन जी रहा है, रावण का यह प्रस्ताव सुनकर स्तब्ध रह जाता है। 'राक्षसेन्द्र वचः श्रुत्वा' (राक्षसराज के वचन सुनकर) वाक्यांश मारीच की प्रतिक्रिया की गंभीरता को दर्शाता है; वह जानता है कि यह प्रस्ताव विनाश का आमंत्रण है।
