वातस्य तरसा वेगम् निहन्तुम् अपि च उत्सहे ।
दहेयम् अपि संक्रुद्धः तेजसा आदित्य पावकौ ॥ ॥३-३१-७॥
vātasya tarasā vegam nihantum api ca utsahe । daheyam api saṃkruddhaḥ tejasā āditya pāvakau ॥ ॥3-31-7॥
Translation
"I have the power to arrest the speed of the wind with my might. Enraged, I can burn up the Sun and the Fire with my radiance."

"मैं अपने बल से वायु के वेग को भी रोक सकता हूँ। क्रुद्ध होने पर मैं अपने तेज से सूर्य और अग्नि दोनों को भस्म कर सकता हूँ।"
English Commentary
Ravana continues his elemental boast. Stopping the wind signifies halting the life-force (Prana) of the universe. Burning the Sun challenges the source of all energy. Ravana is essentially claiming that his internal energy (Tejas) is superior to the cosmic sources of light and heat. This monologue serves two purposes: it intimidates the messenger, Akampana, and it reminds the audience of the terrifying adversary Rama has provoked. It sets up a contrast between Rama’s quiet, disciplined power and Ravana’s chaotic, overwhelming force.

रावण पंचतत्वों पर अपने नियंत्रण का बखान करता है। वायु की गति को रोकना और सूर्य (आदित्य) को अपने तेज से जला देना—यह दर्शाता है कि रावण का 'तेज' (शक्ति/आभा) प्राकृतिक स्रोतों से भी अधिक प्रचंड है। वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ रावण को केवल एक राजा नहीं, बल्कि एक प्राकृतिक आपदा (Force of Nature) के रूप में चित्रित कर रहे हैं। अकंपन के सामने यह प्रदर्शन इसलिए है ताकि वह डर के मारे रावण की शक्ति पर संदेह न करे और खुलकर बात कर सके।
