विनाशयति यः क्रोधात् देव उद्यानानि वीर्यवान् ।
चन्द्र सूर्यौ महा भागौ उत्तिष्ठन्तौ परंतपौ ॥ ॥३-३२-१६॥
Vināśayati yaḥ krodhāt deva udyānāni vīryavān । Candra sūryau mahā bhāgau uttiṣṭhantau paraṃtapau ॥ ॥3-32-16॥
Translation
That powerful one who, out of anger, destroys the gardens of the gods; and who obstructed the rising of the illustrious Sun and Moon, who are the tormentors of their foes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस वीर्यवान (रावण) ने क्रोधित होकर देवताओं के उद्यानों का विनाश किया; तथा उदित होते हुए महाभाग्यशाली और शत्रुओं को संताप देने वाले सूर्य और चंद्रमा को भी (अपनी भुजाओं से) रोक दिया।
English Commentary
This verse emphasizes the terror Ravana instilled in the cosmos. He is described as Vīryavān (full of valor/power), but this power is directed destructively through anger (krodha). Destroying divine gardens symbolizes the disruption of peace and order. More imposingly, the verse states he obstructed the Sun and Moon. In Indian mythology, the movement of celestial bodies represents Rta (cosmic order). By physically stopping them, Ravana positions himself above the laws of nature. It illustrates a regime where even the passage of time and the cycle of day and night were held hostage by one demon's tyranny.
हिंदी टीका
यहाँ रावण के 'वीर्यवान' (शक्तिशाली) और 'क्रोधी' स्वभाव का चित्रण है। उसका क्रोध इतना विनाशकारी है कि वह देवताओं के आनंद के स्थानों (उद्यानों) को मिटा देता है। श्लोक का दूसरा भाग उसकी कॉस्मिक (ब्रह्मांडीय) शक्ति को दर्शाता है। सूर्य और चंद्रमा, जो काल गणना और जीवन के आधार हैं, उन्हें भी रावण ने अपनी भुजाओं से रोक दिया। यह प्रकृति के नियमों (Natural Law) पर उसकी विजय का प्रतीक है। रावण का भय इतना था कि साक्षात सूर्य और चंद्र भी उसकी आज्ञा के बिना अपनी स्वाभाविक गति से नहीं चल सकते थे। यह उस अराजकता (Chaos) को दर्शाता है जो उसने ब्रह्मांड में फैलाई थी।
