उपगम्य अब्रवीत् वाक्यम् राक्षसी भय विह्वला ।
रावणम् शत्रु हन्तारम् मंत्रिभिः परिवारितम् ॥ ॥३-३२-२४॥
Upagamya abravīt vākyam rākṣasī bhaya vihvalā । Rāvaṇam śatru hantāram maṃtribhiḥ parivāritam ॥ ॥3-32-24॥
Translation
Approaching him, the demoness, overwhelmed with fear, spoke words to Ravana, the slayer of enemies, who was surrounded by his ministers.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस राक्षसी ने भय से व्याकुल होकर (रावण के) समीप जाकर बात कही; उस रावण से जो शत्रुओं का नाशक है और मंत्रियों से घिरा हुआ था।
English Commentary
The verse conveys the tension of the moment. Shurpanakha approaches the throne bhaya vihvala (agitated/overwhelmed by fear). This fear is telling; despite her injury and kinship, Ravana’s presence is so intimidating that she trembles to speak. Ravana is depicted in his official capacity, surrounded by ministers, highlighting that this is a state affair, not just a family meeting. She addresses him as Shatru hantaram (slayer of foes), appealing to his martial prowess, which she desperately needs to invoke to avenge her mutilation.

शूर्पणखा की मानसिक स्थिति का चित्रण यहाँ महत्वपूर्ण है। वह 'भय विह्वला' (डर से कांपती हुई) है। यद्यपि वह रावण की बहन है और अपनी नाक कटवा कर आई है, फिर भी रावण के सामने जाने में उसे डर लग रहा है। यह रावण के आतंक को सिद्ध करता है—उसका अपना परिवार भी उससे सुरक्षित महसूस नहीं करता। रावण 'मंत्रिभिः परिवारितम्' (मंत्रियों से घिरा) है, जो एक औपचारिक राजसभा का दृश्य है। शूर्पणखा का वहां पहुंचना राजकाज में विघ्न डालने जैसा है, लेकिन वह 'शत्रु हन्तारम्' (शत्रुनाशक) से ही अपने अपमान का बदला लेने की आशा रखती है।
