देव गन्धर्व भूतानाम् ऋषीणाम् च महात्मनाम् ।
अजेयम् समरे घोरम् व्यात्त आननम् इव अन्तकम् ॥३-३२-६॥
deva gandharva bhūtānām ṛṣīṇām ca mahātmanām |
ajeyam samare ghoram vyātta ānanam iva antakam ॥3-32-6॥
Translation
He was invincible in battle against Devas, Gandharvas, spirits, and high-souled Sages. He was terrifying, like Death (Antaka) standing with a gaping mouth.

वह देवताओं, गंधर्वों, भूतगणों और महात्मा ऋषियों द्वारा युद्ध में अजेय था। वह (शत्रुओं के लिए) खुले हुए मुख वाले यमराज (अंतक) के समान भयानक था।
English Commentary
This verse establishes Ravana's martial dominance while subtly hinting at his vulnerability. He is ajeyam (invincible) against celestial beings and sages—referencing his boon from Brahma which exempted humans and monkeys. His demeanor is ghoram (terrible), compared to Antaka (Death/Yama) with a gaping mouth (vyatta ananam), ready to swallow the world. This portrayal emphasizes that Ravana is not just a king but a force of death, a supreme predator sitting atop the hierarchy of beings he has conquered.

यहाँ रावण के योद्धा रूप का वर्णन है। उसे 'अजेयम्' कहा गया है, लेकिन वाल्मीकि विशिष्ट रूप से उन वर्गों का नाम लेते हैं जिनसे वह अजेय है—देवता, गंधर्व, भूत और ऋषि। (ध्यान दें कि यहाँ 'मानव' का उल्लेख नहीं है, जो उसकी मृत्यु का कारण बनेंगे)। वह 'व्यात्त आननम् अन्तकम्' यानी मुंह खोले हुए मृत्यु के देवता (काल) जैसा है, जो सब कुछ निगलने को तत्पर है। यह रावण के दरबार में प्रवेश करने वाले किसी भी व्यक्ति के मन में उत्पन्न होने वाले भय को स्पष्ट करता है।
