विंशत् भुजम् दश ग्रीवम् दर्शनीय परिच्छदम् ।
विशाल वक्षसम् वीरम् राज लक्ष्मण लक्षितम् ॥३-३२-८॥
viṃśat bhujam daśa grīvam darśanīya paricchadam |
viśāla vakṣasam vīram rāja lakṣmaṇa lakṣitam ॥3-32-8॥
Translation
He had twenty arms and ten necks (heads), and his attire was spectacular. He was a hero with a broad chest, marked with all the auspicious signs of royalty.

वह बीस भुजाओं और दस सिरों वाला था, और उसके वस्त्र-आभूषण देखने योग्य (सुंदर) थे। वह विशाल छाती वाला वीर था और राजोचित लक्षणों (चिह्नों) से युक्त था।
English Commentary
This verse presents the iconic image of Ravana: Dasha-griva (ten-headed) and twenty-armed. Despite this monstrous anatomy, he is described with aesthetic appreciation—his attire is darshaniya (beautiful/worthy of seeing). He is a Vira (hero) with a broad chest. Crucially, he possesses raja lakshana (marks of royalty), indicating that by destiny and physical constitution, he was born to rule. It validates his status as a legitimate, albeit tyrannical, sovereign rather than a mere chaotic beast.

यहाँ रावण के प्रसिद्ध 'दशग्रीव' (दस सिर) और 'विंशत् भुज' (बीस भुजाओं) वाले रूप का वर्णन है। राक्षसी रूप होने के बावजूद, वह कुरूप नहीं है; उसका परिधान 'दर्शनीय' (देखने योग्य/सुंदर) है। उसे 'वीर' और 'राज लक्ष्मण लक्षितम्' कहा गया है, जिसका अर्थ है कि सामुद्रिक शास्त्र के अनुसार उसके शरीर पर चक्र, पद्म आदि राजसी चिह्न थे। यह विरोधाभास—राक्षसी आकृति और राजसी लक्षण—रावण के चरित्र की जटिलता है; वह एक महान सम्राट है जो अब अधर्म के मार्ग पर है।
