Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अतिमानिनम् अग्राह्यम् आत्म संभावितम् नरम् ।
क्रोधिनम् व्यसने हन्ति स्व जनो अपि नराधिपम् ॥ ॥३-३३-१६॥
Atimāninam agrāhyam ātma saṃbhāvitam naram । Krodhinam vyasane hanti sva jano api narādhipam ॥ ॥3-33-16॥
Translation
Even his own people will slay a king in times of trouble if he is excessively proud, refuses to accept good counsel, considers himself self-sufficient, and is prone to anger.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो राजा अति अभिमानी, किसी की बात न मानने वाला (अग्राह्य), अपने आप को ही सब कुछ समझने वाला और क्रोधी होता है, विपत्ति आने पर उसे उसके अपने ही लोग मार डालते हैं।
English Commentary
This verse serves as a grim prophecy regarding internal rebellion. Shurpanakha describes the profile of a tyrant: 'atimāninam' (overly proud) and 'agrāhyam' (one who rejects counsel/is unapproachable). When a leader becomes an echo chamber of his own ego ('ātma saṃbhāvitam') and rules through anger, he loses the loyalty of his inner circle. She warns that in times of vulnerability, such a leader is often assassinated or overthrown not by enemies, but by his own kinsmen or subjects.

यह श्लोक रावण के अहंकार पर सीधा प्रहार है। 'आत्म संभावितम्' का अर्थ है वह व्यक्ति जो स्वयं को ही सर्वश्रेष्ठ मानता है और दूसरों का सम्मान नहीं करता। 'अग्राह्य' का अर्थ है जो मंत्रियों या हितैषियों की सलाह को स्वीकार नहीं करता। शूर्पणखा चेतावनी देती है कि बाहरी शत्रु तो बाद में आते हैं, ऐसे निरंकुश राजा का वध अक्सर 'स्व जनो' (अपने ही लोगों) द्वारा विद्रोह करके कर दिया जाता है जब राज्य पर संकट आता है।
