आविष्टम् तेजसा रामम् संग्राम शिरसि स्थितम् ।
दृष्ट्वा सर्वाणि भूतानि भयात् विव्यथिरे तदा ॥ ॥३-३४-२५॥
Āviṣṭam tejasā Rāmam saṃgrāma śirasi sthitam । Dṛṣṭvā sarvāṇi bhūtāni bhayāt vivyathire tadā ॥ ॥3-34-25॥
Translation
Seeing Rama infused with luster (Tejas) and standing at the forefront of the battle, all beings were then distressed with fear.

उस समय तेज से परिपूर्ण और युद्ध के मुहाने (अग्रभाग) पर स्थित राम को देखकर समस्त प्राणी भय से व्याकुल हो उठे।
English Commentary
This verse marks a definitive shift in Rama's demeanor. The phrase āviṣṭam tejasā implies that Rama is essentially 'possessed' or fully inhabited by his own martial splendor. He is no longer the gentle forest exile; he has become a conduit of raw cosmic power. Standing at the saṃgrāma śirasi (the head/vanguard of the battle), he projects an aura so intense that it terrifies sarvāṇi bhūtāni (all living beings), not just the enemy. This reaction of universal fear underscores the terrifying aspect of the Divine when it prepares to destroy evil. Valmiki notes that true martial power is not just physically dangerous but spiritually overwhelming.
