Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दुद्रुवुः यत्र निःशब्दम् पृष्ठतो न अवलोकयन् ।
तत् च अनीकम् महावेगम् रामम् समनुवर्तत ॥ ॥३-३४-३१॥
Dudruvuḥ yatra niḥśabdam pṛṣṭhato na avalokayan । Tat ca anīkam mahāvegam Rāmam samanuvartata ॥ ॥3-34-31॥
Translation
They (the animals) fled to wherever it was silent, not even looking back. And that army, with great speed, marched towards Rama.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे (जानवर) वहां भागे जहाँ शांति (निःशब्द) थी, और उन्होंने पीछे मुड़कर भी नहीं देखा। और वह महावेगी सेना राम की ओर (उसी प्रकार) बढ़ी (जैसे समुद्र तट की ओर बढ़ता है)।
English Commentary
This verse paints a picture of absolute panic alongside relentless aggression. The animals fleeing without looking back (pṛṣṭhato na avalokayan) captures the instinct for survival overriding all else—they seek only niḥśabdam (silence/safety). This exodus of nature leaves the stage empty for the unnatural combatants. In contrast to the fleeing animals, the Rakshasa army moves with mahāvegam (great velocity) towards Rama. The vector of all energy in the forest is now directed at a single point: Rama. The inevitability of the collision is emphasized. The army doesn't just approach; it 'pursues' or 'encircles' (samanuvartata) him, closing the net.

जानवरों का 'पीछे मुड़कर न देखना' (पृष्ठतो न अवलोकयन्) उनके आतंक की चरम सीमा को दिखाता है—उन्हें केवल भागना है, चाहे कहीं भी। वे 'निःशब्दम्' (शांत) स्थान की खोज में हैं, जो अब उस वन में दुर्लभ हो गया है। इसके ठीक विपरीत, राक्षसों की सेना 'महावेगम्' (अत्यधिक वेग से) राम की ओर बढ़ रही है। यहाँ एक विरोधाभास है: जानवर राम (जो रक्षक हैं) के पास से दूर भाग रहे हैं क्योंकि वहां मृत्यु का तांडव होने वाला है, और राक्षस अपनी मृत्यु (राम) की ओर दौड़ रहे हैं। 'समनुवर्तत' का अर्थ है लक्ष्य करके आगे बढ़ना। जैसे नदियाँ समुद्र की ओर जाती हैं, वैसे ही यह विनाशकारी सेना राम रूपी महासागर में समाने के लिए उमड़ पड़ी।
