इमान् पश्य महाबाहो सर्व भूत अपहारिणः।
समुत्थितान् महा उत्पातान् संहर्तुम् सर्व राक्षसान्॥ ॥३-३४-५॥
imān paśya mahābāho sarva bhūta apahāriṇaḥ। samutthitān mahā utpātān saṃhartum sarva rākṣasān॥ ॥3-34-5॥
Translation
O mighty-armed one (Lakshmana), behold these great omens that have arisen to destroy all the demons and which signal the abduction of the lives of all beings.

हे महाबाहु (लक्ष्मण)! सब प्राणियों के प्राण हरने वाले और सब राक्षसों का संहार करने के लिए उठे हुए इन महान अपशकुनों को देखो।
English Commentary
Rama draws Lakshmana's attention to the portents with the vocative Mahābāho (mighty-armed), reinforcing their martial bond. The phrasing is ominous: sarva bhūta apahāriṇaḥ suggests a cataclysm that "steals away" living beings (death). Rama interprets these signs specifically as the harbingers of doom for the Rakshasas (saṃhartum sarva rākṣasān). This reflects the ancient belief that the macrocosm (universe) reflects the microcosm (earthly events). Rama sees the impending battle not as a chance skirmish, but as a destined event of annihilation for the wicked.
