आयुधम् किम् च रामस्य येन ते राक्षसाः हता।
खरः च निहतः संख्ये दूषणः त्रिशिराः तथा॥ ॥३-३४-६॥
āyudham kim ca rāmasya yena te rākṣasāḥ hatā। kharaḥ ca nihataḥ saṃkhye dūṣaṇaḥ triśirāḥ tathā॥ ॥3-34-6॥
Translation
What is the weapon of Rama by which those demons were killed? And by which Khara, Dushana, and Trishira were slain in battle?

राम का आयुध (हथियार) क्या है, जिससे उसने उन (चौदह हजार) राक्षसों को मार डाला? और जिससे युद्ध में खर, दूषण तथा त्रिशिरा भी मारे गए?
English Commentary
Ravana focuses on the technological aspect of the warfare: āyudham kim (what is the weapon?). The massacre of 14,000 demons, alongside their commanders Khara, Dushana, and Trishira, presents a tactical anomaly to Ravana. He cannot reconcile a human ascetic with such devastation. By naming the generals specifically, Ravana acknowledges the magnitude of the loss. This verse underscores the pivotal moment where Rama transitions from a wandering exile to a threat capable of dismantling the Rakshasa military hierarchy.

रावण का यह प्रश्न उसके अविश्वास और चिंता को प्रकट करता है। खर, दूषण और त्रिशिरा सामान्य योद्धा नहीं थे; वे जनस्थान के रक्षक और महाबलशाली राक्षस थे। एक अकेले मनुष्य द्वारा उनका वध, वह भी 'संख्ये' (युद्ध भूमि में) आमने-सामने की लड़ाई में, रावण के लिए अकल्पनीय है। इसलिए वह विशेष रूप से 'आयुधम्' (हथियार) के बारे में पूछता है। उसे लगता है कि अवश्य ही राम के पास कोई दिव्य या चमत्कारी अस्त्र होगा। यह श्लोक राम के पराक्रम की अप्रत्यक्ष स्तुति है, क्योंकि उनका शत्रु भी उनकी विजय पर आश्चर्यचकित है।
