भक्षार्थम् गरुडः शाखाम् आजगाम महाबलः ।
तस्य ताम् सहसा शाखाम् भारेण पतगोत्तमः ॥ ॥३-३५-२९॥
Bhakṣārtham garuḍaḥ śākhām ājagāma mahābalaḥ । Tasya tām sahasā śākhām bhāreṇa patagottamaḥ ॥ ॥3-35-29॥
Translation
...the mighty Garuda came to a branch to eat them. Suddenly, under his weight, that branch [broke].
हिंदी अनुवाद
...महाबली गरुड़ उन्हें खाने के लिए उस (वटवृक्ष की) शाखा पर आए। तब उस पक्षीराज (गरुड़) के भार से वह शाखा अचानक (टूट गई)।
English Commentary
This verse continues the action. Garuda, described as Mahābalaḥ (the mighty one) and Patagottamaḥ (best of birds), lands on the banyan branch with the intention of eating (bhakṣārtham) his prey. However, the combined weight of the divine bird and the two giant beasts is too much even for this colossal tree. The phrase tasya... bhāreṇa (by his weight) emphasizes the immense physical mass and spiritual density of Garuda. The verse builds tension as the sanctuary of the sages is about to be threatened by this falling branch.

महाबली गरुड़, जो विष्णु के वाहन हैं, हाथी और कछुए को पंजों में दबाकर उस विशाल वटवृक्ष की एक शाखा पर बैठने का प्रयास करते हैं। 'भक्षार्थम्' (खाने के लिए) स्पष्ट करता है कि गरुड़ का उद्देश्य क्या था। किन्तु, गरुड़ का भार और उनके द्वारा पकड़े गए विशाल जीवों का भार इतना अधिक था कि सौ योजन लंबी वह शाखा भी उसे सहन नहीं कर सकी। 'पतगोत्तमः' (पक्षियों में श्रेष्ठ) विशेषण गरुड़ की महिमा के लिए प्रयुक्त है। यहाँ 'भारेण' (भार से) शब्द उस भौतिक प्रभाव को दर्शाता है जो एक दैवीय शक्ति का पृथ्वी पर होता है।
