तम् तु गत्वा परम् पारम् समुद्रस्य नदी पतेः ।
ददर्श आश्रमम् एकांते पुण्ये रम्ये वनांतरे ॥ ॥३-३५-३७॥
Tam tu gatvā param pāram samudrasya nadī pateḥ। Dadarśa āśramam ekānte puṇye ramye vanāntare ॥ ॥3-35-37॥
Translation
Having gone to the other shore of the Ocean, the Lord of Rivers, he saw a hermitage in a secluded, holy, and delightful interior of the forest.

नदियों के स्वामी समुद्र के उस पार (दूसरे तट पर) जाकर, उसने एकांत, पवित्र और रमणीय वन के भीतर एक आश्रम देखा।
English Commentary
Ravana crosses the ocean (nadī pateḥ - Lord of Rivers) and locates his destination. The ashram is described as ekānte (solitary/secluded), puṇye (holy), and ramye (delightful). This establishes the setting as a sanctuary of peace, starkly contrasting with Ravana's turbulent mind and violent intentions. The location in the deep forest (vanāntare) suggests safety and isolation, which Maricha has chosen to escape his past and, ironically, to hide from Ravana himself.

रावण अपनी यात्रा के अंतिम चरण में है। वह समुद्र (नदी पतेः) के पार उतरता है। आश्रम का वर्णन तीन विशेषणों से किया गया है: 'एकांते' (सुनसान/एकांत में), 'पुण्ये' (पवित्र) और 'रम्ये' (सुंदर)। यह विरोधाभास है कि एक राक्षस (मारीच) ऐसे सात्विक वातावरण में रह रहा है। यह स्थान भीड़-भाड़ से दूर है, जो रावण की गुप्त मंत्रणा के लिए उपयुक्त है। 'वनांतरे' का अर्थ है वन के भीतरी भाग में, जहाँ शांति अखंडित है।
