तम् स्वयम् पूजयित्वा च भोजनेन उदकेन च ।
अर्थोपहितया वाचा मारीचो वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥३-३५-४०॥
Tam svayam pūjayitvā ca bhojanena udakena ca। Arthopahitayā vācā mārīco vākyam abravīt ॥ ॥3-35-40॥
Translation
Having personally worshipped him with food and water, Maricha spoke words that were meaningful and to the point.
हिंदी अनुवाद
स्वयं भोजन और जल से उनका पूजन (सत्कार) करके, मारीच ने अर्थ-पूर्ण (हितकारी/सारगर्भित) वाणी में यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
Maricha performs the duties of a host personally (svayam), offering bhojana (food) and udaka (water). Once the formalities are complete, the dialogue begins. Maricha’s speech is described as arthopahitayā—fraught with meaning, significant, and substantial. He doesn't engage in small talk; he senses urgency. This adjective prepares the reader for Maricha’s wise counsel that follows, contrasting with Ravana’s rash impulses.

मारीच ने सेवकों के बजाय 'स्वयम्' (खुद) रावण की सेवा की, जो घनिष्ठता और आदर का प्रतीक है। भोजन और जल (भोजनेन उदकेन) से शारीरिक थकान मिटाने के बाद, अब संवाद शुरू होता है। मारीच की वाणी को 'अर्थोपहितया' कहा गया है, जिसका अर्थ है ऐसी वाणी जो व्यर्थ नहीं है, जिसमें गहरा अर्थ और तर्क है। मारीच समझदार है; वह जानता है कि रावण का अचानक आना किसी खतरे का संकेत है।
