दशग्रीवो विम्शति भुजो दर्शनीय परिच्छदः ।
त्रिदश अरिः मुनीन्द्र घ्नो दश शीर्ष इव अद्रि राट् ॥३-३५-९॥
Daśagrīvo viṃśati bhujo darśanīya paricchadaḥ |
Tridaśa ariḥ munīndra ghno daśa śīrṣa iva adri rāṭ ॥3-35-9॥
Translation
With ten necks and twenty arms, wearing beautiful garments, that enemy of the gods and slayer of great sages appeared like the King of Mountains (Himalaya/Sumeru) with ten peaks.
हिंदी अनुवाद
दस गर्दनों और बीस भुजाओं वाले, सुंदर वस्त्र धारण किए हुए, देवताओं के शत्रु और मुनीश्वरों के हत्यारा वह (रावण) दस चोटियों वाले विशाल पर्वतराज (हिमालय या सुमेरु) के समान दिखाई पड़ रहा था।
English Commentary
Here, Valmiki emphasizes the superhuman and formidable anatomy of Ravana: ten necks and twenty arms. He is compared to a Adri-rat (King of Mountains) with ten peaks, suggesting immovable strength and colossal size. However, his titles define his antagonistic role: Tridasha-ari (Enemy of the Thirty [Gods]) and Munindra-ghna (Slayer of the Lords of Sages). This duality is central to Ravana—he is physically magnificent and royally attired (darśanīya paricchadaḥ), yet morally reprehensible as the destroyer of the holy.
