चतुर्दश सहस्राणि रक्षसाम् भीम कर्मणाम् ।
शूराणाम् लब्ध लक्षाणाम् खर चित्त अनुवर्तिनाम् ॥ ॥३-३६-५॥
caturdaśa sahasrāṇi rakṣasām bhīma karmaṇām । śūrāṇām labdha lakṣāṇām khara citta anuvartinām ॥ ॥3-36-5॥
Translation
Fourteen thousand demons of terrible deeds, brave warriors who were skilled marksmen (who had hit their targets) and who followed the will of Khara, (were slain).

भयानक कर्म करने वाले, शूरवीर, अचूक निशाना लगाने वाले तथा खर के चित्त (इच्छा) के अनुसार चलने वाले चौदह हजार राक्षसों को (उसने मार डाला)।
English Commentary
In this verse, Ravana describes the caliber of the army that was stationed in Janasthana to emphasize the magnitude of the defeat. He uses specific epithets to validate their martial prowess: bheema karmanam (doers of terrifying deeds) and labdha lakshanam (those who have secured their targets, i.e., expert marksmen). By stating they were Khara chitta anuvartinam (followers of Khara’s will), Ravana highlights their discipline and loyalty. The commentary notes the underlying psychological tension: Ravana praises his army to suggest that their defeat was impossible, thereby inadvertently elevating Rama's prowess. He is trying to process how a disciplined force of 14,000 elite warriors could be annihilated, setting the stage for his desperate request for Maricha's magical assistance.
