ते तु इदानीम् जनस्थाने वसमाना महाबलाः ।
संगताः परम आयत्ता रामेण सह संयुगे ॥ ॥३-३६-६॥
te tu idānīm janasthāne vasamānā mahābalāḥ । saṃgatāḥ parama āyattā rāmeṇa saha saṃyuge ॥ ॥3-36-6॥

Those mighty demons residing in Janasthana, united and fully prepared, engaged in battle with Rama.

वे महाबली राक्षस, जो अब तक जनस्थान में निवास कर रहे थे, युद्ध में राम के साथ परम तत्परता और एकजुटता से भिड़े थे।
English Commentary
Ravana emphasizes that the conflict in Janasthana was a fair fight where his forces were at their peak readiness. The terms samgatah (united/gathered) and parama ayattah (fully prepared/exerting maximum effort) are crucial. He insists that his army was not caught off guard; they were ready and engaged Rama with full force. This description serves a dual purpose: it validates the valor of the fallen Rakshasas and underscores the terrifying efficiency of Rama. By admitting that readiness and brute strength (mahabala) failed, Ravana is logically leading Maricha to the conclusion that brute force is useless against Rama, and thus, deception (Maya) is the only remaining path.

इस श्लोक में 'संगताः' (एकजुट) और 'परम आयत्ताः' (पूरी तरह तैयार) शब्दों का प्रयोग अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। रावण यह स्पष्ट कर रहा है कि राक्षसों पर कोई अचानक या सोते हुए आक्रमण नहीं हुआ था। वे युद्ध के लिए सन्नद्ध थे और संगठित थे। इसके बावजूद उनका विनाश हो गया। रावण की पीड़ा यह है कि 'महाबलाः' (अत्यधिक बलशाली) होने के बाद भी वे राम के सामने टिक नहीं सके। यह श्लोक रावण के अविश्वास को दर्शाता है कि कैसे संगठन और शक्ति (रक्षस पक्ष) एक अकेले वनवासी (राम) के कौशल के सामने विफल हो गए। यह मारीच को यह समझाने का प्रयास भी है कि राम के साथ सीधा युद्ध करना अब विकल्प नहीं है, इसलिए छल का सहारा लेना आवश्यक है।
