कथम् नु तस्य वैदेहीम् रक्षिताम् स्वेन तेजसा ।
इच्छसे प्रसभम् हर्तुम् प्रभाम् इव विवस्वतः ॥३-३७-१४॥
Katham nu tasya vaidehīm rakṣitām svena tejasā । Icchase prasabham hartum prabhām iva vivasvataḥ ॥3-37-14॥
Translation
How then do you wish to forcibly abduct Vaidehi (Sita), who is protected by her own brilliance (and Rama’s power), just as one cannot snatch the radiance from the Sun?

तो फिर, सूर्य (विवस्वान) की प्रभा (धूप) के समान, अपने ही तेज से सुरक्षित उस राम की वैदेही (सीता) को तुम बलपूर्वक (प्रसभम्) हरने की इच्छा कैसे कर रहे हो?
English Commentary
Maricha employs a powerful metaphor here. He compares Sita to Prabhā (radiance) and Rama to Vivasvat (the Sun). Just as sunlight cannot be forcibly separated from the sun, Sita cannot be separated from Rama. Furthermore, she is rakṣitām svena tejasā—protected by her own spiritual brilliance (chastity). Maricha questions Ravana's sanity: How can you wish to steal fire or sunlight? It is an act that defies the laws of nature and guarantees burning the thief.

यहाँ सीता और राम के संबंध को सूर्य और उसकी प्रभा (रोशनी) के रूप में वर्णित किया गया है। जैसे सूर्य से उसकी चमक को अलग नहीं किया जा सकता, वैसे ही राम से सीता को अलग करना असंभव है। 'स्वेन तेजसा रक्षिताम्' का अर्थ है कि सीता केवल राम के बाणों से नहीं, बल्कि अपने स्वयं के पातिव्रत्य तेज से भी सुरक्षित हैं। मारीच रावण की मूर्खता पर प्रश्न उठा रहा है—क्या कोई सूर्य की धूप को मुट्ठी में पकड़ सकता है? सीता का हरण करना उतना ही असंभव और विनाशकारी प्रयास है।
