Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
धनुर् व्यादित दीप्त आस्यम् शर अर्चिषम् अमर्षणम् ।
चाप बाण धरम् तीक्ष्णम् शत्रु सेना अपहारिणम् ॥३-३७-१६॥
Dhanur vyādita dīpta āsyam śara arciṣam amarṣaṇam । Cāpa bāṇa dharam tīkṣṇam śatru senā apahāriṇam ॥3-37-16॥
Translation
(Do not approach him) whose bow is like a gaping, blazing mouth, whose arrows are flames, who is intolerant (of enemies), who wields sharp bow and arrows, and who destroys enemy armies.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(उस राम के पास मत जाओ) जिसका धनुष खुले हुए (व्यादित) प्रज्वलित मुख के समान है, बाण जिसकी ज्वालाएँ हैं, जो अमर्षण (असहिष्णु/क्रोधित) है, तीक्ष्ण बाण और धनुष धारण करने वाला है और शत्रु सेना का नाश करने वाला है।
English Commentary
Expanding on the fire metaphor, Maricha describes Rama’s bow as vyādita dīpta āsyam—a gaping, blazing mouth of Death waiting to consume its victims. The term amarṣaṇam indicates that while Rama is patient, he is intolerant of evil once provoked. He is the destroyer of enemy armies (śatru senā apahāriṇam). This imagery paints Rama not just as a warrior, but as a consuming force of destruction on the battlefield. Maricha is essentially saying, "You are walking into the mouth of Death."

अग्नि के रूपक को आगे बढ़ाते हुए, यहाँ राम के धनुष की तुलना 'व्यादित दीप्त आस्यम्' (फैले हुए जलते हुए मुख) से की गई है—मानो साक्षात् काल (मृत्यु) ने अपना मुंह खोल रखा हो। 'अमर्षणम्' शब्द महत्वपूर्ण है, जिसका अर्थ है जो अपमान या शत्रु को सहन नहीं करता। मारीच रावण को याद दिला रहा है कि राम शांत दिखते हैं, लेकिन युद्ध में वे 'शत्रु सेना अपहारिणम्' (शत्रु सेना को मिटा देने वाले) हैं। यह दृश्य मारीच की अपनी स्मृति से उपजा है, जब उसने राम को विश्वामित्र के यज्ञ की रक्षा करते हुए देखा था।
