अपि ते जीवित अंताय न उत्पन्ना जनकात्मजा ।
अपि सीता निमित्तम् च न भवेत् व्यसनम् महत् ॥३-३७-५॥
Api te jīvita antāya na utpannā janakātmajā । Api sītā nimittam ca na bhavet vyasanam mahat ॥3-37-5॥
Translation
May it not be that the daughter of Janaka (Sita) was born for the end of your life. May it not be that a great calamity befalls you because of Sita.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कहीं ऐसा न हो कि जनकनंदिनी (सीता) का जन्म तुम्हारे जीवन के अंत के लिए ही हुआ हो। कहीं ऐसा न हो कि सीता के कारण (तुम्हारे ऊपर) कोई महान संकट (महाविपत्ति) आ पड़े।
English Commentary
Maricha voices a grim premonition here, suggesting that Sita’s very birth might be destined to bring about Ravana's demise. By referring to her as Janakātmajā (daughter of Janaka), he invokes her lineage of spiritual potency. Maricha fears that Sita will be the nimittam (instrument/cause) of a mahat vyasanam (great calamity or total destruction). He tries to shift Ravana’s perspective from lust to self-preservation, warning him that pursuing this specific woman is not an act of pleasure, but an invitation to death itself.

मारीच यहाँ एक अशुभ संभावना व्यक्त कर रहा है, जो वास्तव में एक भविष्यवाणी है। वह 'जनकात्मजा' (जनक की पुत्री) शब्द का प्रयोग करता है, जो सीता की उच्च कुल और पवित्रता का द्योतक है। मारीच को आभास हो रहा है कि सीता का जन्म ही रावण के विनाश का कारण (निमित्त) बन सकता है। 'व्यसनम् महत्' का अर्थ यहाँ केवल छोटी-मोटी परेशानी नहीं, बल्कि सर्वनाश है। मारीच रावण को यह समझाने की कोशिश कर रहा है कि जिसे वह 'सुख' का साधन समझ रहा है, वह वास्तव में साक्षात् 'मृत्यु' है। यह श्लोक नियति के खेल की ओर संकेत करता है।
