अवजानन् अहम् मोहात् बालो अयम् इति राघवम् ।
विश्वामित्रस्य ताम् वेदिम् अभ्यधावम् कृत त्वरः ॥ ॥३-३८-१८॥
Avajānan aham mohāt bālo ayam iti rāghavam । Viśvāmitrasya tām vedim abhyadhāvam kṛta tvaraḥ ॥ ॥3-38-18॥
Translation
Disregarding Raghava due to delusion, thinking "This is just a boy," I ran with great speed towards the sacrificial altar of Vishvamitra.

"यह तो बालक मात्र है"—ऐसा सोचकर मोहवश राघव की अवहेलना करते हुए, मैं बड़ी तेजी से विश्वामित्र की उस यज्ञ-वेदी की ओर दौड़ा।
English Commentary
Maricha confesses his tactical error: underestimation born of Moha (delusion). He dismissed Rama as Balo ayam ("This is just a boy"), ignoring the threat to focus on his objective—the sacrificial altar (Vedim). This act of bypassing the guard to hit the target is exactly what Ravana plans to do with Sita. Maricha warns that ignoring the protector because he looks harmless is a fatal miscalculation. Speed (Krita tvarah) and aggression are useless against unrecognized divinity.

मारीच अपनी सबसे बड़ी भूल स्वीकार करता है: 'अवजानन्' (अवज्ञा/तिरस्कार करना) और 'मोहात्' (अज्ञान/भ्रम के कारण)। उसने राम के बाहरी आवरण ('बालो अयम्'—यह तो बच्चा है) को देखा, न कि उनकी क्षमता को। वह राम को अनदेखा कर सीधे 'वेदिम्' (यज्ञ वेदी) की ओर लपका ताकि उसे नष्ट कर सके। यह रावण के लिए एक सीधा संदेश है: सीता के रक्षक राम को साधारण मनुष्य या वनवासी समझकर नजरअंदाज करना (Ignore) रावण के विनाश का कारण बनेगा, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे मारीच का हुआ था।
