नील जीमूत संकाशः तप्त कांचन कुण्डलः ।
भयम् लोकस्य जनयन् किरीटी परिघ आयुधः ॥ ॥३-३८-२॥
Nīla jīmūta saṃkāśaḥ tapta kāṃcana kuṇḍalaḥ । Bhayam lokasya janayan kirīṭī parigha āyudhaḥ ॥ ॥3-38-2॥
Translation
...Resembling a dark blue cloud, wearing earrings of refined gold, wearing a crown and carrying an iron club as a weapon, I used to generate fear in the world.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(उस समय) मैं नीले मेघ के समान (काले) रंग का था, तपाए हुए सोने के कुंडल पहने हुए था। मैं मुकुटधारी था और हाथ में परिघ (लोहे का मुद्गर) रूपी शस्त्र लेकर लोगों में भय उत्पन्न करता था।
English Commentary
Maricha continues the vivid description of his pre-Rama physique. The imagery is striking: a body dark as a rain cloud (Nila jimuta) adorned with blazing gold earrings, creating a visual of fearsome majesty. He was fully armed with a Parigha (iron club) and crowned (Kiriti), symbolizing authority and aggression. The key phrase is Bhayam lokasya janayan (creating fear in the world). He emphasizes that he was the apex predator of that time, making his subsequent defeat by a teenage Rama all the more miraculous and terrifying.

यह श्लोक मारीच के राक्षसी वैभव और क्रूरता का चित्र खींचता है। 'नील जीमूत' (काले/नीले बादल) जैसी काया और 'तापत कांचन' (तापाया हुआ सोना) के आभूषणों का विरोधाभास (Contrast) उसके भयानक व्यक्तित्व को उभारता है। वह 'किरीटी' (मुकुटधारी) था, जो उसके उच्च दर्जे को दर्शाता है। 'भयम् लोकस्य जनयन्'—उसका अस्तित्व ही आतंक का पर्याय था। मारीच यह बता रहा है कि वह कोई साधारण राक्षस नहीं था, बल्कि एक सशस्त्र योद्धा था जिससे पूरा लोक डरता था, सिवाय उस एक बालक (राम) के।
