Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पातितो अहम् तदा तेन गंभीरे सागर अंभसि ।
प्राप्य संज्ञाम् चिरात् तात लंकाम् प्रति गतः पुरीम् ॥ ॥३-३८-२१॥
Pātito aham tadā tena gaṃbhīre sāgara aṃbhasi । Prāpya saṃjñām cirāt tāta laṃkām prati gataḥ purīm ॥ ॥3-38-21॥
Translation
I was thrown by him then into the deep waters of the ocean. Regaining consciousness after a long time, O dear one, I went back to the city of Lanka.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब उस बाण ने मुझे गहरे सागर के जल में गिरा दिया। हे तात! बहुत देर बाद होश (संज्ञा) आने पर मैं लंका पुरी लौट आया।
English Commentary
The aftermath of the encounter. Being dumped into the Gambhire sagara (deep ocean) signifies total displacement from his turf. The recovery took a long time (Cirat), indicating severe concussion or shock. Maricha returned to Lanka, but as a survivor, not a conqueror. This narrative serves to demystify the Rakshasa valor; against Rama, even the mightiest are reduced to shipwrecked survivors gasping for air.

इस श्लोक में मारीच अपनी दुर्दशा का समापन करता है। 'गंभीरे सागर अंभसि' (गहरे समुद्र के जल में) गिरना और 'चिरात्' (लंबे समय बाद) होश आना—यह उस आघात (Trauma) की गंभीरता को दर्शाता है। वह लंका लौट आया, लेकिन वह वही पुराना अभिमानी मारीच नहीं था। वह एक बदला हुआ, भयभीत व्यक्ति था। यह विवरण रावण को यह बताने के लिए है कि राम से बचकर भागना संभव नहीं है; यदि बच भी गए तो वह जीवन मृत्यु से बदतर होगा।
